BILL CROW’S 98th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 10, 2025
Bill Crow is widely regarded as one of the greatest Jazz bassists of our time. At 97 years old, he is extremely active, quite often playing 2 gigs a day! On Wednesday December 10th, we will celebrate his upcoming 98th birthday with “Leonieke’s 3 Generations of Jazz Trio” of which Bill is the bassist! Bill will be performing this night, along with Leonieke on piano and Nick Scheuble on drums. You can also expect to see and hear world famous musicians drop by and sit in with Bill and the group! Throughout the years, Jerry Weldon, Harvie S., Jay Leonhart, Tomoko Ohno, and too many others to mention, have come to Bill’s birthday celebrations at Shanghai Jazz and we have wonderful musicians again this year!
ABOUT THE 3 GENERATIONS OF JAZZ TRIO
Pianist, Leonieke:
Recently, returning from 9 weeks in Japan headlining at the Osaka Expo 2025 (World’s Fair), a subsequent tour in the US, and being a much sought after Artist among New York’s finest Jazz musicians, Leonieke is well on her way to being one of the major figures in Jazz. Come experience for yourself the artistry of this fine young talent and her outstanding group.
Bassist, Bill Crow:
Bill Crow has enjoyed a long jazz career, playing as a member of bands led by Stan Getz, Claude Thornhill, Marian McPartland, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, Zoot Sims and Clark Terry, and has made individual appearances with Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, and many more. He has recorded extensively with most of these bands, and with many others. He has also played for several hit Broadway shows, including The King and I, On the Twentieth Century, and 42ND Street.
Bill has also written two books about jazz, “Jazz Anecdotes” and “From Birdland to Broadway,” both published by Oxford University Press. Currently, Bill performs regularly at Smalls Jazz Club in Manhattan, and is a lecturer and active performer at Lincoln Center.
Drummer, Nick Scheuble:
Nick Scheuble has performed with Classical and Jazz Grammy winner, Wynton Marsalis, as well many of the world’s most respected jazz musicians. He has also remained Grammy-nominee, Chico Mendoza’s percussionist for over 30 years.
Recently returning from performing in Japan (mid April thru mid June 2025) for the Osaka EXPO (World’s Fair), Nick has also performed US Embassy tours of Uzbekistan and Moldova, and toured much of the United States.
Nick has performed at noted venues throughout North America, Eastern and Western Europe, East and Central Asia.
Doors open at 4:30. Seating times are 5:45 and 8:05. Respective performances begin at 6:15 and 8:30 with $8 Entertainment Fee and $25 food & drink minimum per person. Reservations strongly recommended.
